OCTEC commenced delivery of an important new program, Transition to Work, in May 2016 following success in a tender process in October and November 2015. Transition to Work is the Australian Government’s youth employment program targeted at 15 to 21 year old job seekers. As the name suggests, the program aims to assist and support young people make the challenging transition from school to secure employment, and to re-engage young people who have given up trying.
OCTEC is delivering Transition to Work in three Employment Regions – Capital, Central West and Sydney North and West. We’re the only provider in Central West, while in Capital and Sydney North and West, we’re sharing delivery with another provider. Capital Region has three sites – Braddon, Phillip and Tuggeranong. Sydney North and West has four sites, all at the northern end of the region – Lake Haven, The Entrance, Toukley and Wyong. Central West is our largest service area geographically and has six sites – Bathurst, Cowra, Lithgow, Mudgee, Orange and Parkes.
The Transition to Work team led by TtW Manager, Charissa Mossop, was recruited and trained during April and May 2016. It brought together both existing staff who transferred into the program and new staff recruited to OCTEC. The team continued to grow during 2016 and 2017 as caseload numbers increased, with the program having a very successful first eight months. OCTEC looks forward to the program continuing to develop during 2018 and is excited to have this opportunity to tackle the youth unemployment problem head on.
